Martha Gavilanes, LMHC
What is your approach in therapy?
I offer a welcoming, non-judgmental and restorative space to discuss life struggles. My approach is warm, open, genuine, and supportive. I specialize in working with adults with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, aging, relationship and codependency issues, cultural adjustment, and addictive behaviors. I’m culturally competent and sensitive to all forms of human diversity, especially regarding race, ethnicity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.
I’ve completed my BA in Psychology and MA in Counseling from New Jersey City University. I possess 10 years of experience working in nonprofit agencies and underserved communities. I’m a committed and relentless advocate for social justice and the fight against stigma in mental health.
"I want you to know that I see you, the intense pain, the internal struggle and need for a change. I understand beginnings can be extremely complicated, nevertheless, we have the power to make the decision and the commitment to start caring about what is pivotal in life. Your health your mental health. I invite you to begin a self-exploration journey where you find yourself and you learn to heal.”
“Tengo un mensaje especial para mi comunidad Latina, yo entiendo la necesidad inmensa que temenos los latinos por sanar esas heridas viejas que hemos estado escondiendo por mucho tiempo. Los invito a empezar esta discusión"
