How Does
Walking Therapy Work?
In walking therapy, you and your therapist meet outdoors — often in a nearby park or designated walking path — and engage in therapeutic conversation while walking side by side. This unique format often feels more natural and less intense than sitting face-to-face, which can ease social anxiety and promote open dialogue.
Here’s how to get started:
First, complete a required intake session, either in-office or via secure online video
Once approved, you’ll schedule your walking sessions directly with your therapist
Walking therapy is a private pay service not covered by insurance
Sessions are $200 out-of-pocket, and you’ll receive a reimbursement bill you can submit to your provider, if eligible
This approach is especially helpful for those managing anxiety, stress, life transitions, grief, or simply looking for a more active and holistic therapy experience.
